Altcoins may rally by June but only a few will thrive
Real Vision’s chief crypto analyst Jamie Coutts predicts that altcoins could experience one last rally in this cycle, though only those with strong utility and network activity are likely to benefit.
“I think there will be one more breadth thrust from altcoins. The question is, is it a sustained rally that we will see for six to twelve months,” stated Coutts during an April 3 livestream with Real Vision co-founder Raoul Pal.
Coutts emphasised that traders should focus on network activity as the “north star” for crypto investments.
“Quality altcoins where activity returns—activity drives prices—we will definitely see a recovery in some of these more high-quality names,” he added.
The analyst expects altcoins to gain momentum by June, contingent on Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) reaching all-time highs around the same period.
Coutts previously suggested that Bitcoin could achieve record levels before the end of Q2, regardless of macroeconomic uncertainties such as tariffs and recession fears.
Despite optimism for selective altcoins, indicators show that an altcoin season may not be imminent.
Capriole Investments’ Altcoin Speculation Index has dropped to 12%, down 53% since December 2024.
Similarly, CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index reads 14 out of 100, signaling a Bitcoin-dominated market.
Blockchain network activity has also declined recently.
For instance, Solana’s (CRYPTO:SOL) weekly active addresses fell nearly 40% between November 2024 and February 2025.
Analysts argue that only assets with strong adoption metrics will thrive during the next upswing.
Coutts highlighted the importance of tracking where network activity is concentrated and using it as a guide for investment decisions.
He noted that while Bitcoin dominance remains high at 62.84%, trading volume may now be a more relevant metric for predicting altcoin rallies.
