Over $33 Million in Bitcoin Stolen from Coinbase Users in Recent Scam Attack, Investigator Reveals
A recent scam attack targeting Coinbase customers has resulted in over $33 million in bitcoin being stolen, as revealed by on-chain investigator ZachXBT. The stolen funds were sent to the wallet "bc1qvl" and there have been several other thefts reported since March 16, including amounts of 20 BTC, 46 BTC, and 60 BTC. The stolen bitcoin was then transferred to Ethereum's blockchain using tools like THORChain and Chainflip. This is not the first time ZachXBT has identified similar attacks against Coinbase users, with a previous case involving scammers posing as Coinbase support staff resulting in the theft of $234 million in bitcoin. Despite these incidents, Coinbase has not yet updated its compliance tools to identify the addresses associated with these scams.
